School is in session, the nights are cooling off, and it is hard to make it through a day without se
eing something that is pumpkin-spiced flavored – Fall is here. The Library is welcoming the change in seasons with a new Bookmobile Schedule. The Fall Bookmobile schedule runs from August 28 – December 21 and features multiple new Bookmobile stops, including Waterfront Hy-Vee, Emerson Point, Iowa City Walmart, and Mark Twain Elementary.
With nearly two full weeks of service under our belts already we are already making connections at our new and continued stops. Our first visit to Emerson Point felt like a party, with the Bookmobile consistently filled with excited, new visitors, several of whom made use of our accessibility lift.
While at Waterfront Hy-Vee for the first time, several shoppers stopped by on their way into or out of the store. One visitor stated “I just came by for a salad and – WOW!”
Today, a Bookmobile visitor popped in and explained that she didn’t have time to look around, but she wanted to express her appreciation for the Library and the Bookmobile. Many visitors at our new locations make a point to thank us for bringing the Bookmobile to them, though I always tell them WE should be thanking THEM for coming. The Bookmobile relies upon community interaction and to receive so much support from visitors is incredibly rewarding.
If you haven’t stopped by the Bookmobile yet this season, or ever, now is a great time to come by and find your next book or movie. If you don’t have a library card or if it is lost, no worries. We would love to make a new one for you. September is Library Card Sign-up month and we are celebrating by offering free replacement cards all month. As a special Bookmobile Bonus, every time you use your library card on the Bookmobile this month, you can be entered into a drawing to win a $25 gas card.
