Rereads Summer 2021

This is my summer 2021 edition of rereads! I'll be going back through some of the titles that I remember really enjoying the first or second time around.

This is a seek and find that has something for everyone. I love the illustrations, and the poetry lends itself to more seeking. Anyone with a seek and finder in their house might enjoy this romp through the seasons and the forest.

This one summer

Mariko Tamaki

GRAPHIC NOVEL Tamaki
Graphic Novels

Rose and her parents have been going to Awago Beach since she was a little girl. It's her summer getaway, her refuge. Her friend Windy is always there, too, like the little sister she never had, completing her summer family. But this summer is different. Rose's mom and dad won't stop fighting, and Rose and Windy have gotten tangled up in a tragedy-in-the-making in the small town of Awago Beach. It's a summer of secrets and heartache, and it's a good thing Rose and Windy have each other.

The first time I picked this up I read it in one sitting because I got so sucked in to the indigo hues and memorable characters. This happened again the second time I read it. Maybe I can take a little more time with it this go around, but I'm probably kidding myself--beautiful in every way!

The things they carried

Tim O'Brien

FICTION O'Brien, Tim
Historical Fiction

This is perhaps my favorite O'Brien and one that I have revisited more than once. Sincere, heartbreaking, and unapologetically real, if you have yet to read any of Tim O'Brien's works, I would suggest starting here.

This is the first of the Rick Riordan Presents imprint that I have read, and I am impressed! Going back for round two with Sikander and Gilgamesh soon, as the first time around was a whirlwind.
