Press ReleaseStarting Wednesday, June 1, Children ride for free with their ICPL Library Card through the Summer Library Bus Program

With their Iowa City Public Library card, children have a ticket to ride an Iowa City Transit bus for free, all summer long. The Library provides free rides on any Iowa City Transit bus to children through 12th grade, as well as to the adult caregivers with them, on weekdays between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm, from Wednesday, June 1 through Tuesday, August 23, 2022.

Bus riders should show their Iowa City Public Library card to the bus driver to gain free access to the bus.

Sam Helmick, Community & Access Services Coordinator, states that, "our goal is to make the Library accessible to all families with children, throughout the summer."

The Summer Library Bus Program is an extension of the Library's year-round, all-ages Ride and Read program.
Ride and Read provides two free bus passes each week to patrons of all ages. Patrons simply show their Library card at any service desk at the Downtown Library to get a bus pass for their ride home.
