Changes Coming in Children's DVDs!

If you enjoy checking out DVDs from our Children's Department, perhaps you've noticed that they're currently organized into three sections:

  1. jDVD (green spine labels): shorter works like animated picture books and television series for preschool-age and younger viewers
  2. jDVD Fiction (yellow spine labels): mostly feature-length films for school-age viewers (five and up)
  3. jDVD Nonfiction (blue spine labels): all-ages nonfiction DVDs, including things like exercise DVDs, language-learning DVDs, travel DVDs, etc.

Did my explanation just clear up years of confusion for you? Or, alternatively, did it make you more confused? If so, you're not alone. What we at the library have come to realize is that there has become so much crossover between the sections that the categories may sometimes be unclear.

For example, while the original Mister Rogers' Neighborhood television series is shelved in the jDVD Fiction section, the Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood series is in the jDVD section.

Therefore, beginning this month, the children's DVDs will be merged into ONE SECTION!

  1. jDVD (clear spine labels)

Find hot new titles and old family favorites all organized alphabetically by movie title or series name under the umbrella of jDVD. (We have a small amount of jBlu-Ray, too, if that format is your jam.)

By the way, you can find even more movies for all ages on ICPL's streaming video service, Kanopy, at kanopy.com. Just enter your library card number and PIN/password (call the library or visit one of our help desks if you need to reset that) and be instantly connected for free to hundreds of children's and adult titles.

We hope this change helps our patrons find what they want more easily. The transition is going on now and we appreciate your flexibility! As always, the Children's Department staff are happy to help you navigate any of our collections, locate any title you're searching for, or provide recommendations - let us know how we can help!
